Design Exercise - eBooks
Sometimes I just need to be get creativity out of my system, there are only so many official publications I can produce before I have to get home, and spend a good few evening working on something that will feed my creativity needs as well as my geek needs.
I wish I had more time to work on my own projects, with 2 children - there is just not enough hours in the day...
I've produced a few eBooks, none of which have been officially published, but after displaying them on Issuu.com I have had quite a bit of positive feedback and a good few requests for linking to other websites.
All of these publications began as something else, film studio production notes, a closed down website, blog posts, even an un-produced book. It was just a matter of taking the raw copy, tracking down high resolution images, collating the information and designing in a way that was appealing and yet respectful of the original source material.
Fade In: From Idea to Final Draft - The Writing of Star Trek: Insurrection. By Michael Piller.
In 1997, with the franchise basking in the success of First Contact, Star Trek producer Rick Berman called upon his old friend and colleague Michael Piller to write the next installment of the franchise. They began with the idea of making something lighter and more fun than the previous Next Generation films. But the road from idea to finished film is a long one, fraught with many perils, from meddling executives to recalcitrant actors. Piller wrote this first hand account of the writing process before his death in 2005. Due to pressure from Paramount, it has never received an official publication, but the leaked manuscript is widely available online.
